Tomáš Honěk (born 1985) took up playing guitar at the age of 10 at the Primary School Of Arts in Semily and from 2000 he studied at the Music Conservatory of Pardubice under Stanislav Juřica. In 2004 he started a master’s degree programme at Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno, where he was taught by Martin Mysliveček and Vladislav Bláha, finishing his conservatory studies in 2006 and his master’s degree in 2010. He participated in various music festivals and courses (Mikulov, Vien, Koblenz, Split, Belgrade etc.) and attended masterclasses given by Aniello Desiderio, Costas Cotsiolis, Zoran Dukić, Pablo Márquez, Leo Brouwer, Marco Socias, Paolo Pegoraro and others. He has received a number of both Czech and international awards. Joining Lucia Fulka Kopsová, he has been a member of Duo Teres since 2007. The duo has been successful in a number of international chamber music competitions, receiving 1st prize in Gorizia (2009), 1st prize in Vidnava (2010) and 3rd prize in Aschaffenburg. Their debut album, released on ArcoDiva, came out in 2010. Duo Teres has premiered works of many renowned composers - J. Freidlin, L. Hurník, M. Brunner, K. Růžička, M. Benko and O. Kukal, and often performs both in the Czech Republic and abroad. Since 2015 Tomáš Honěk has been the chairman of the Czech Association of Chamber Music and he studies classical guitar making in the studio of master luthier Martin Šuk.
